The App Store was launched almost a year ago and has crossed some major milestones in that time. Now, Apple’s first banners for WWDC 2009 point out the App Store’s wild success just days before the conference is set to begin.
There will be other signs and banners popping up at Moscone West before next week’s conference that will be covered until after the keynote is over.

News (and confirmed features of) about Mac OS 10.6 “Snow Leopard”

Many websites and most of Mac specialists thought Snow Leopard would have been released on first quarter of 2009, but still nothing…

The next generation of OS X should be the key event of the upcoming WWDC 09 (june 08-12);  as a result, 2 operating systems for this amazing World Wide Developers Connection: Mac OS 10.6 and iPhone OS 3.0!
A number of changes have been confirmed though, such as a:

  1. Rewritten Cocoa-based finder,
  2. HFS+ file compression,
  3. Improved support for Microsoft Exchange in Mail, iCal and Address Book,
  4. QuickTime X which will feature optimized support for modern codecs (it is rumored that all of QT Pro features will be available for free),
  5. OpenCL (Open Computing Language) will allow developers to more easily code applications to take advantage of the GPU for non-graphics computing purposes,
  6. Grand Central: a parallel-programming technology that aims to take greater advantage of modern multi-core CPUs, included in all current Macs,
  7. Support for up to a theoretical 16 terabytes of RAM by further developing 64-bit kernel technologies,
  8. A smaller hard drive and RAM footprint and faster installation times, under 15 minutes versus over an hour for Mac OS X v10.5,
  9. Stacks will receive an update, allowing users to drill-down into the contents of subfolders within the stacks interface,

  10. A 64-bit kernel which provides a complete 64-bit environment for applications, along with 32-bit support for older Macs. This completes a long-running attempt by Apple to completely unify their products in 64-bit capabilities, dating back to Apple’s original adoption of the PowerPC in 1994, which anticipated 64-bit CPUs using the same architecture. With the PowerPC G5 Apple incrementally built 64-bit support into OS X starting with Mac OS X v10.3 “Panther” in 2003
  11. The next version of BootCamp is said to have an easier way to share files between your Windows and Mac partition, making it easier to work on both operating systems.

Possibly quad-core iMacs to come…

Apple Gives Developers Safari 4 Preview

Posted on June 11th, 2008 in Safari | View Comments

Apple has given developers a preview copy of Safari 4 via the Apple Developer Connection website.
Safari 4 Developer preview is available for Mac OS X Leopard, Tiger and Microsoft Windows.
I downloaded this “small” package of 26.8 MB and it’s the same application of course, same shape.
This preview is also available for Tiger and Windows.

Safari 4 adds the ability to Save a webpage as an application. Also spotted in the Safari preferences is the ability to specify whether new tabs or windows open with; home page, same page, empty page or bookmarks.
Here’s a screenshot of Safari 4:

PS: the small iPod button is an application, CosmoPod.

Mac OS 10.5.3 in the Core of the Problems

Posted on May 25th, 2008 in Leopard | View Comments

The next update for Leopard that will probably be released on WWDC, will bring 220 bugs fixes.
But it seems the core of the OS has been fixed, as a result, we should expect a great and materially innovative update!

WWDC’08 Countdown Started!

Posted on May 15th, 2008 in Rumors, Steve Jobs, iPhone, iPhone 3GS & iPhone 4 | View Comments

Will Steve Jobs be there for a Keynote to kick off WWDC’08 or not?
A lot of rumors around the guy with the black shirt, white sneakers and blue jeans, nobody will know the answer before june 9th.

The only thing that is very probable is the official announcement of the iPhoe 3G…

If you’re impatient, you can get the WWDC’08 countdown widget, it’s here!

PS: Fortune’s Apple 2.0 blog received confirmation from Apple’s public relations that Steve Jobs would be delivering the keynote speech at Apple’s Wordwide Developer’s Conference on Monday, June 9th.

Harry Potter

I know there are a lot of Mac users who like Harry Potter (that’s one of the reasons why EA Games showed a preview of their next Harry Potter game on Macintosh at Apple’s WWDC 07 Keynote to announce their return to the Mac).

So here’s a slideshow screensaver of Harry Potter to download for OS X.
