If you have a .mac account and you enable encryption in iChat, you’ll get an autogenerated certificate in your Keychain.
Go to your Keychain to check if you do have it.
If you found it, you will be able to use it to encrypt your mails…
Just go to your Keychain preferences and check “Search .Mac for Certificates”.
Then you’ll see this little icon when composing a Mail in Mail.app from your .mac account.
PS: you must have the other person’s certificate to encrypt mail to it.
I’ve picked some ideas from Apple Discussions forum about OS X Security, and here is my strategy:
- no antivirus, no third parties firewalls (they can only cause problems)
- back up as often as i can
- enabling built in firewall (read this)
- + being protected by router’s firewall
- hiding preview pan in Mail.app
- disabling “open safe files” in Safari pref
- don’t open unknown sender’s attachements
- thanks Apple for the security update: they are WITH us (very good reactivity)
- create a Good Quality Administator password, it don’t have to be written anywhere in your Mac (in any file), you can write it down on a sheet of paper or on your mobile phone (be sure not to loose them
) (do never loose it!!!!!!)
- use another web browser like Firefox or Camino (which are Safer than Safari)
PS: i really can’t use another browser, i love Safari too much…
Thanks to Apple for its reactivity against the vulnerability (of Safari, Mail, iChat and others).
