Posted on 20 December 2007 in Apple Software, Mac OS X, Macintosh Tips & Help | No Comments »

Found the first one by luck, as I was looking for a document (an act) on my Mac: “dĂ©cret 87-529″, and I found in the results the result of “87-529=-442″.

Spotlight Calculator

Another very cool feature on Leopard! I’m already addicted to this one!

Also wanted to mention, Spotlight now also displays dictionary definitions of the words you’re looking for! AMAZING!

Guide: Leopard Under Control

Posted on 2 December 2007 in Leopard, Mac OS X, Macintosh Tips & Help | 1 Comment »

Leopard Under Control?

It’s a request made by a visitor. Couldn’t say no, because the idea is very interesting.
In this post, I’m going to “list” all the howtos and tutorials I wrote previously on Leopard: from the installation to networking.
This “guide” is mainly intended to people who (like me) did an archive & install of Apple’s latest Operating System.

  1. Things to do before installing Mac OS X Leopard
  2. It would be important to know which of your applications aren’t Leopard ready (example: if you are working on a non Leopard ready application, it would be safer to wait before installing 10.5)
  3. You May already have heard about the Leopard’s Blue Screen Of Death.. You have to read this to solve/avoid having that issue
  4. Installing Leopard in Target Disk Mode may be required for some Mac users, here’s the tutorial
  5. Now, Leopard’s installed, there will be a permissions problem (if you did an Archive & Install); for example, your password will be asked every time you want to delete, move, edit a document; here’s the solution to fix your permissions.
  6. Some people finds the new Dock distractive or just didn’t like it, here’s the how to revert the 3D dock to a 2D (Tiger) looking one.
  7. And finally, another “common issue”, is that intermittent internet connection problem: some has their internet connection often cut down, some others have a lower speed connection, this is what I did to “fix” as much as I could this problem.

FileMaker just released for Leopard users a new application called “Bento”, the application is available for any Leopard user as a free “Preview” edition. All you have to do to get the download link is to fill in this form.

Designed specifically for Mac OS X Leopard, Bento offers one place to put your important information, including: contacts, calendars, projects, and events. Bento automatically displays contacts and calendars kept within Address Book and iCal, with no need to re-enter existing names, phone numbers, email addresses or upcoming events. “Bento is the personal database for the millions of Mac users who appreciate the elegance and ease of use of their Mac,” said FileMaker president Dominique Goupil. “With Bento, we are providing an incredibly easy way to manage all your information — iCal calendar events, Address Book contacts, digital media and files — all in one place, effortlessly.”
