Quick Tip: Start Lotus Notes in Basic mode
Posted on February 11th, 2011 in IBM, Lotus Notes | 1 Comment »
Today’s quick tip is related to IBM Lotus Notes. I’m going to explain you how to start Lotus Notes Mac in Basic mode.
As you probably already know, this mode is much faster than Standard because it doesn’t load the Eclipse Framework.
Close Lotus Notes and open the equivalent to the famous notes.ini file on you Mac, it is located under: ~/Library/Preferences/Notes Preferences
You have to open it using text edit or any other text editor.
Add the following entry: UseBasicNotes=1 just like I did below:

Restart Lotus Notes, it will start in Basic mode.
If you’d like to revert to Standard, all you have to do is to delete the line we’ve just added.
The trick for PC here.

Here is finally THE solution to that problem thousands of BB users were looking for.
No need for a particular application to be installed on your Mac or PC to make it work.
First, a solution for Non Storm Users, then, the solution to Storm Users.
I- Non Storm Users
Just follow this super easy to use tutorial:
- Download a barcode reader for your BB, for instance I-Nigma will make it: open this link via your BB: http://i-nigma.mobi/
- Scan this barcode (to download a ready to use on any country BB app world application)

- Go to “manage your connections” right onto your BB then disable “Mobile Network”
Start BB app world, and there you go!
Don’t forget to re-enable Mobile Network

Get Your Mac Ready for Snow Leopard
Posted on August 27th, 2009 in Leopard, Snow Leopard, Tiger | 3 Comments »

Remember? The famous Blue Screen Of Death many of us had when updating from Tiger to Leopard?
Well after a few hours, we knew the reason was the Application Enhancer and you all remember the famous tutorial.
I wrote a blog post a few days before Leopard came out, giving many advices to users who were (worried) about to make an upgrade from Tiger(10.4) to Leopard (10.5), the same advices apply for the Leopard to Snow Leopard transition.
Apple’s OS X installers traditionally come with 3 options (archive and install …) but with Snow Leopard, there will be a single default kind of installation (Archive & Install) meaning “fresh OS”.
The installer is complicated as it used: insert disc, open installer, type password and go.
The installer first quarantines incompatible apps and plugins in an “Incompatible Software” folder, but it will be better (on my opinion) to clean up your system a bit before installing Snow Leopard by removing tweaks, mods, input managers and plugins.
You may also take a look at this Snow Leopard compatibility listing.
For example, on my system, I decided to delete Growl (the uninstaller script is in the installer’s disk image), Chax (installer comes with a remove option), Google Gears, Flip 4 Mac, and many other utilities that adds plugins or modify OS X’s default application/system.
I’m not meaning these applications are not supported by Snow Leopard.
This post is just a set of advices for the paranoid ones like myself.
Another solution (takes a lot of time) is to reinstall a fresh copy of Leopard and then upgrade it to Snow Leopard.
Before starting the installer it would be better to unplug/unmount any external device plugged to your Macs (you can keep the mouse and keyboard of course).

Here it is, finally.

The latest version of iTunes 7.7 brings the App Store.
Most of the applications are free; and that is an amazing thing for iPhone owners we are!
I’m so happy to see almost all the applications I use daily on my Mac available now for the iPhone like NetNewsWire, Twitterrific, or AIM!

The rumors were right, iTunes 7.7 came with a free utility that enables you to remotely control iTunes from your iPod Touch or iPhone.
No applications to customize the look (icons etc..) of the iPhone yet, but it would be amazing to have a CandyBar for the iPhone!
You can download iTunes 7.7 from here.

If you’re a frequent visitor of MacAmour, you may have read many posts on an Open Source application called QuickSilver. A mix between a Spotlight, Finder, Terminal but most of us are using it like a launcher in OS X.
But if you’re a user of QuickSilver you may also know the developer claimed the project has been discontinued since 2007.
But there’s a wind of hope in the air. While another developer trying to clean up QS’s code to make it faster; the original author of this amazing tool is working on a new version of QS!
Download the latest version of QuickSilver here.
You’ll notice the last version has some new features nobody heard about like Quick Look support!
The last update is version beta 56; june 25th.
Bonus: Nicholas Jitkoff’s (author of QS) conference at Google explaining QuickSilver!
You’ll find the video after the jump.
