A few updates…

Posted on 23 June 2007 in Safari, iPhone & iPhone 3G | No Comments »

The first Safari update is available from you “Software Update”, it’s version 3.0.2: recommended to all of Safari users.
Apple.com website has also been updated featuring an iPhone guided tour, which is mainly intended to prepare the “field” for iPhone’s launch (june 29th for the USA).
I also noticed that Apple.fr still hasn’t been restyled.

iPhone Guided Tour

You can watch the video at Apple.com or just download the full “Guided Tour” video (175 mb).

Apple also pushes forward iPhone’s internet capabilties with a YouTube player an there’s a noticeable new icon in one of the iPhone’s in Apple’s website.

“An error occurred while attempting to join the chat”

If you have this message (An error occurred while attempting to join the chat) don’t panic, it’s nothing but an incompatibility with Safari 3 beta.

Two ways to fix this bug:

Solution N°1- uninstall Safari beta

OR

Solution N°2- download Chax 1.4.9 beta 1; as a reminder, Chax is a plug in for iChat that adds several “missing features” to OS X’s default chat client.

Enable the Web Inspector in Safari beta 3

A trick I found in Mac OS X hints, and the web inspector is superb (iPhoto style):

Safari Inspector

It’s a single line to copy (type) in the terminal after quitting Safari:

defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitDeveloperExtras -bool true

Restart Safari and you’ll find a new item “Inspect Element” in the contextual menu (that appears when you control + click somewhere on a page).

Apple.com has been redesigned and I’m speecheless, the new look is superb! The new design is the “new brushed metal” (introduced with iTunes 7), the search function is now on the menu bar; no more “Mac OS X”, it has been replaced by “Mac in which you can browse Apple.Com by Mac, applications etc…

Browse Apple.Com

Apple also released Safari 3 beta for PC and Mac!

Apple claims now that Safari is the fastest browser on ANY plateform!

Making faster searches on Internet

You may know that when you drag & drop a picture or song on the Mail’s icon on the dock it will easilly create a new email containing the file you moved:once you tried this, sending e-mails will be faster and really enjoyable!
I recently noticed that this feature, which is simple but powerful, also interests texts!

1)When you’re on a webpage and some text seemed interesting to you, drag and drop it on the Textedit icon on the Dock:that replaces the copy&past command.

2)The feature i think will really be intresting:try to drag & drop a word (or a sentence) on the Safari icon on the Dock, just like this:
The text Trick

Guess what?Safari displays a window with a google research on the word you moved (wikipedia in our case)!
The result of dropping the text

I think this is a nice way to make very fast researches on the net.

Tiger’s Safari not so secure?

Posted on 27 February 2006 in Safari, Security & Maintenance | 2 Comments »

MacWorld UK has reported that a fully up-to-date system running Safari 2.0.3 (417.8) and Mac OS X 10.4.5 is vulnerable to a recently discovered security flaw. It can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user’s system. The source of this flaw is the way Mac OS X Tiger processes the meta data of the file associations of Zip archives. To make things worse this exploit allows Safari to automatically execute malicious code when visiting a website. One known way to avoid this vulberability is to disable the “Open safe files after downloading” option in Safari. If you want to test if your Mac is vulnerable Secunia is kind enough to provide a working demonstration.
