QuickTime 7.5 is Available

Posted on 9 June 2008 in Freeware, Quicktime Player | No Comments »

Often, Quicktime updates coincide with iTunes updates. Since we know that the 3G iPhone will require iTunes 7.7, we suspect that’s what the “application compatibility” refers to. Apple recommends this release for all QuickTime 7 users. Note that a restart is required.

Quicktime Player 7.4.1

A whole post for just an update? To me it’s more than an update, this version of QT is the best I ever used! Playback is flawless, and loading is super fast.I gave it my hardest to play HD videos, and while I was used to that choppy playback of the previous versions, I had nothing with this one.Fantastic update! Or maybe is it thanks to Leopard who knows…

This security issue was detected first on Windows versions of the QuickTime Player, now it has been confirmed on OS X.

It is highly advised not to use the RTSP protocol unless you’re sure about the source.

Quick Tip: Watch a GIF Animation

Posted on 19 July 2007 in Macintosh Tips & Help, Quicktime Player | No Comments »

When you open a .gif file just by double clicking on it, preview opens the file by default and the result isn’t interesting at all: a list of thumbnails in the drawer.
To watch .gif animations I have set QuickTime player to handle all of them on my computer.

Bono

A52Codec has been updated a few days ago, so I take this as an opportunity to advise all QT users for the plugins they need to make almost all the formats work in their player. No need to install a single plugin more than this list (but for professionals who are working on other video formats).

Apple adds Xvid to QT

Posted on 17 April 2007 in Apple Software, Quicktime Player | No Comments »

Apple has added Xvid to its online QuickTime Components list. The Xvid-for-QuickTime component, allows you to play and encode Xvid video. Apple states:
The Xvid component for QuickTime allows users to play & encode Xvids in QuickTime Player. Xvid is a video codec library following the MPEG-4 standard.
In theory, this means that the Apple TV could also support Xvid video playback.
