iChat 4.0, originally uploaded by jonathan.ives.
With the new iChat you’ll be able to compose SMS (I’ve read it will only work to write SMS to US numbers)…
I hope they will implement international numbers support..
If you have this message (An error occurred while attempting to join the chat) don’t panic, it’s nothing but an incompatibility with Safari 3 beta.
Two ways to fix this bug:
Solution N°1- uninstall Safari beta
OR
Solution N°2- download Chax 1.4.9 beta 1; as a reminder, Chax is a plug in for iChat that adds several “missing features” to OS X’s default chat client.

According to the Apple notes about the 10.4.9 update to OS X, iChat AV is now compatible with USB Video Class webcams (Which means no hack is needed anymore to make USB cameras work on OS X).
Best or advised webcams are:
* The Xbox 360 webcam compatible with any Mac running Mac OS X 10.4.9. No drivers required.
* The QuickCam Ultra Vision and Fusion webcams, image quality is great, they have built in microphones and you just plug it in and it works.
* The Creative Live! cam optia should also work, but it has no mic.
The perfect companion to iChat has been updated and version 1.4.8 is now available.
iChax is indeed a compilations of features that are “missing” in iChat in a simple tab that is added to your chat client’s preferences. Main features are tabbed chatting, unread messages count in dock just like in Mail.app, you can also hide the iTunes Music Store arrow link, customize your contact list fonts and much more!
The full list of features and download link are available in Chax official site.
