Taking advantage of push email servers in Mail.app

mobileme

No more Mail.app hogging your bandwidth with this incredible trick for OS X.
This will only work if your server supports IDLE (like MobileMe, Gmail…).
3 steps to make it work:

  1. Go into Mail » Preferences » Accounts (Advanced) and make sure that Use IDLE command if the server supports it is enabled (it’s enabled by default).
  2. Go into Mail » Preferences » General and set Check for new Mail to Manually.

Now send yourself a new message (preferably from a different account) and watch the fun.

On monday january 13 of 2009, Microsoft decided to make free transfers of your emails (hotmail.com or live.com) to any email application or iPhone.

Fix: Mail has undone actions on some messages so that you can redo the actions while online

Posted on June 11th, 2008 in Apple Mail, Macintosh Tips & Help | View Comments

Just got this problem with Apple’s Mail, with the following message error:

Mail has undone actions on some messages so that you can redo the actions while online. Mail has saved other messages in mailbox “On My Mac” so that you can complete the actions while online.

Additional information: The IMAP command “APPEND (to Send Messages) failed with server error: Mailbox does not exist

To fix this issue, I used Onyx, and activated the “show hidden files”, then went to my Home folder > Library > Mail > IMAP-myemailaddress > .OfflineCache. And erased the content of that folder!

Problem fixed.

We have some .Mac addicted here at MacAmour.
They’ll be happy to learn that Apple improved that service.
It was renamed MobileMe.
The iDisk now offers 20 gigas.
You can now synchronize a Mac, a PC and an iPhone wirelessly.

Apple developped web applications like the alredy known WebGallery (MobileMe Gallery now) and an Agenda etc…

While Apple Mail loads in a glimpse of an eye, Entourage feels the need to show you off it’s brand new splash screens for a couple of seconds…

Entourage 2008 Splash
Well, after a first look at Entourage, I told myself “why is it so complicated?”, look at all those buttons, columns, text, icons.. It’s for me impossible to talk about Entourage without comparing it to Apple Mail…

“To Do”: The Widget Apple Forgot

ToDo Widget

To Do is THE widget Apple forgot in the bundled widgets you have on your dashboard with Leopard. To me, stickies are dead, and they have been replaced by To Do and Notes in the latest Apple OS: Leopard.

This widget is simple, it has sleek design and it is 100% integrated to iCal & Mail. No need to open these apps to see your To Dos, the widget collects them all and it even gives you the ability to add/remove a To Do, or to mark them as done!

Download it free here.
