MxTube is back for iPhone 2.0
Posted on 1 August 2008 in iPhone & iPhone 3G | No Comments »
I’ve already mentioned MxTube’s as one of the most useful applications for iPhone 1.1.4.
Now the application is available for jailbroken iPhone 2.0 users via Cydia.
It still has the same great functions ( main is downloading youtube videos) , is super stable and it’s still free.
Leopard ready AOL Radio 2.0
Posted on 1 August 2008 in 3rd Party Software, Freeware, iPhone & iPhone 3G | 1 Comment »
A new Beta of AOL Radio 2.0 requiring at least Mac OS 10.5.2 is available.
It’s still the same good app referencing radios by genres, but it also has some new features like showing the cover of the current song instead of its icon in the dock and still the Growl-like notifications when changing the station.
You can download AOL Radio 2.0b1 here
AOL Radio is also available as a free App for iPhone/iPod Touch.
You can get it from the iTunes Music Store or directly from the iPhone’s AppStore.
This version is really slick and is the Apple Design Winner in 2008’s iPhone Developer Showcase.
Increase your iPhone’s Battery life
Posted on 26 July 2008 in Macintosh Tips & Help, iPhone & iPhone 3G | No Comments »
These advises apply to iPhone users, especially iPhone 3G users (since the battery life is weaker for the 2nd iPhone).
- First thing to do of course, is to turn off “bluetooth”. Apple didn’t make of it a very interesting feature after all since you can’t send/receive anything from a computer or other device. No regrets then.
- Second thing to do is to turn off the auto-brightness and be sure you didn’t set the brightness to the max (a bit more than 50% is ok).
- Turn off push and sync your iPhone from iTunes like you used to before.
If you really want to keep “push” for emails, you can at least turn it off for calendars, bookmarks and contacts.
It’s also better to set “fetch” to manually. - Don’t hesitate to restart your iPhone from time to time to give it some “air” to breathe.
- I remind you, you can also force quit applications from your iPhone just like in a Mac, by pressing and holding the Home button until the crashing application quits.
- Turn off Wi-Fi when you’re not using it, free hotspots are rare in most of the countries after all.
- You can also just turn off the phone when you don’t need it (theater, club or else) or just turn on Airplane mode.
- When you charge your iPhone, be sure you make full cycles, it’s better to charge it when you have 20% and less battery remaining (not before).
Wordpress for the iPhone
Posted on 23 July 2008 in Web & Web 2.0, Wordpress, iPhone & iPhone 3G, iPod & iPod Touch | No Comments »
I was impatient for the release of this (free) iPhone application; I was wondering when Wordpress would react against its competitor TypePad (who released its application a long time ago).
Wordpress for iPhone is intuitive like almost all the iPhone applications; it supports self-hosted blogs and blogs hosted at Wordpress; it also enables you to manage more than a blog.
Adding a blog doesn’t require a high level of expertise, all the applications asks for is the URL of the blog, the username and the password, a child can do it.
Now, losing your iPhone is more dangerous than it ever has been… Too many sensitive data stored there!

8 Steps to make your iPhone sync your data Over the Air
Posted on 23 July 2008 in Macintosh Tips & Help, dotmac & MobileMe, iPhone & iPhone 3G | No Comments »
A lot of people are complaining about the fact their iPhone isn’t receiving anything from the MobileMe cloud; and I was one of them; but I finally managed and it is now up and working!
Here are the steps I followed to make my iPhone sync my data “over the air“:
- Sync the iPhone and uncheck the email sync (in iTunes)
- Open mail.app and deleted my .mac account
- Setup a “brand new” mobileme account
- Sync from system preferences the datas (contacts, ical etc)
- Sync the iPhone and check the MobileMe account (in iTunes)
- Went to the iPhone and set it up (pref>general>mail, contacts…) to sync these datas over the air
- (I saw) the contacts names appearing instead of their phone numbers in the recent/missed calls and on the SMS received and sent but still nothing in my address book
- Restart the iPhone: everything is there!
I still don’t know which of these steps made the “thing” work though…

Electronic Arts (EA) Future Games for the iPhone/iTouch
Posted on 15 July 2008 in Games, iPhone & iPhone 3G, iPod & iPod Touch | No Comments »
Monopoly, Tiger Woods 09, and Need for Speed!! These are some of the games EA will release for the iPhone/iPod Touch through the App Store.
The three games we already saw on the iPhone from EA are Scrabble, Tetris and Sudoku.
EA will add Wi-Fi support for multi-player gaming for Scrabble (plus accelerometer action that shakes up the words on your tray) and Tetris.
And of course, they also announced during a press conference at the annual E3 trade show the upcoming organism creation game: Spore Origins!
They’ll probably be available at the app store in a few weeks!
