Sync Hotmail (POP3) free on your Mac or iPhone
January 13th, 2009, Hedi Regaya | View Comments
On monday january 13 of 2009, Microsoft decided to make free transfers of your emails (hotmail.com or live.com) to any email application or iPhone.
As a result, no need for httpMail or MacFreePOP anymore.
I’m going to configure my account in the rest of this post.
- Open Mail.app and go to Preferences (command + ,) then go to “accounts”.

- Click on the “+” to add a new account, and fill with your name, email address and password.

- Now let’s configure the incoming and outgoing servers:
Incoming Server: pop3.live.com (username should be yourusername@hotmail.com)
Outgoing Server: smtp.live.com (same thing for the username)
Of course, you can do that on Mozilla Thunderbird or Outlook (if you’re a PC user).
Same settings for the iPhone!

This is not working for me, is there a certain date that this free POP will be activated?
It is good that you can get POP access for Hotmail. If you want to sync your Hotmail flags and folders on iPhone or iTouch check out http://mboxmail.com or search mboxmail in Apples App store.
yea this didnt work for me. i would like to know where u read this so i can find out how it works. last time i checked it only worked for those who pay extra for their hotmail pop3 access with extra storage and not for free users.
Thanks for this, I’ve just set up my 2 hotmail accounts with Mac OSX Mail, works a treat

it doesn’t work for me
Thanks Hedi, nice surprise works well!
Just one more thing to mention, thanks for that after 5 years of non using apple mail now I use it ( have been hotmail client for long time and happy with it)
They are going to save a lots of space on their server .
As per this website…
http://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/01/15/microsoft-rolls-out-windows-live-hotmail-update
POP3 access is now available to Hotmail users in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, Spain, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands. Microsoft plans to roll out POP3 access to more parts of the world later this year
So if you are trying from the US, you may have to wait.
