Old iChat accounts suspended?

A friend of mine has recently switched to the Macintosh.
When she wanted to try iChat, her @mac.com account couldn’t be validated by Apple’s servers and iChat returned her an “incorrect password” error message.
Then it did happen to me too.
It is really annoying, I had to create an AIM account while the wealthy ones are getting MobileMe!

By “old” I guess you mean “before MobileMe”.
It that’s the case, Apple’s changing the rules!
Because as far as I can remember, when you create a .mac trial account it was written it’s a lifetime account (for AIM).
