Speed Download redefines the Download Manager
15 February 2008, Hedi |
When Apple released the 10.5.2 update I was so excited, but even after trying to download the disk image (354 mb), I got a corrupted file in my dowload folder.
First thought that came to my mind: “I need a download manager”. And what was my surprise when I tried Speed Download! Downloads are faster than ever, the user interface is superb and the file I got was perfectly working.
After restarting my Mac, the only thing I wanted to do was to reward the developers of this superb software solution for OS X, so I went to the website and discovered how powerful this application is!
Basically here are the major capabilities Speed Download has:
In this image you can see the super cool icon this application has, but also the features it has.
- full integration to OS X with Safari, iTunes and iDisk support
- .Mac/iDisk/WEBDAV connectivity
- a FANTASTIC encrypted file sharing system between Macintosh users (who have Speed Download)
- a FTP client!
The latest version of SD 5 has an iTunes-like user interface that will probably charm any OS X user:

In terms of performances, the application dramatically increases the download speed and of course enables you to pause/resume any download (without being obliged to start from the begining if Safari 3 beta ever crashes again in the middle of a download).
You can consider this application as a “must have” like all the other applications with a review on this blog. Once again, I’d like to thank Yazsoft for bringing us such a beautiful, multi-function, OS X integrated and powerful application who saved me from the error -4960 (corrupted disk image) and my time and patience to get the latest OS X updates:
You can download a free trial version here.
