Netscape Navigator 9.0
16 October 2007, Hedi |

The latest version of the Netscape 9.0 has been released for Mac.
The design is very cool and some new features has been added like the URL correction (if you type “htp://apple.cmo” for instance, the browser will go straight to “http://apple.com”). Netscape 9.0 also supports all of Firefox 2 extensions and the sidebar can be used as a mini browser.

I have tested it quite a bit and honestly it just looks like a repackaged Firefox with some add-ons built in. It didn’t seem to run and faster or use less memory than Firefox and almost all of the infrastructure and code is identical. Seems like Netscape is hoping to ride on the successful tails of Firefox with a recognizable name. I guess there’s no better base to build from though.
To be honest, I left Firefox & Camino for Netscape. It’s just (for me) a Netscape (skinned) Firefox but I have so much “souvenirs” of the Navigator couldn’t resist but making it the replacement browser (for Safari).
