Hi, I did all the steps and got the ringtones in the tap of the itune, but when i click on the iphone and then click on ringtones, there’s no music in there, and I cannot sync the ringtones to my iphone because a message says that the song cannot be played in iphone.
Can anyone please help me with this problem.

TO CHANGE A FILE EXTENSION IN WINDOWS YOU NEED TO TO CHANGE YOUR FILE SETTINGS. If you go to your start button and right click on it, and click on open all users. then go to tools and then folder option, go to views,look under hidden files and folders, and uncheck the hide extensions for known files types, then you will be able to rename to a .m4r file. But i have done this and tried to put a ring town on my phone, so i don’t think i missed a step

I cannot get any of the listed methods to work in the latest itunes 7.4.3.1…
any suggestions i also have the iphone 1.1.1 update loaded…

I got the ring tone to load via teh WINSCP, but it does not allow me to set this ring tone for specific people is this even possible. The ring tone only shows up in the settings…ringtones not when you edit via the contact.

Hello Andrew. The easiest way is if you have a wireless connection at home; download WinSCP (do a google search. After installing it. Then you can connect to your iPhone as a remote device. You can then drag files from your computer to your iphone directory.
To find your IP in you iphone go to Settings; then Wi-Fi; from there you click the blue arrow and you will find the IP Address.
The default password is “root” and the password is “dottie”.

Looks like 7.4.2 breaks this and takes away access to any previously created ringtones.

In iTunes to edit the length of the song right-click the song and go to “get info.” (Do this before you duplicate your file to ACC format) Then go to the options tab and edit the start and stop times. Then you can click ok, and then right click the song again and choose convert to ACC. (if it says ‘convert to…something else’ then go to preferences and in the advanced tab change the import format to ACC) Now the duplicated song is to the length you want. Once you do this you can follow the other steps to make it a ringtone. This also might solve the problem of not being able to use it on the iPhone, because on the iphone it requires the song to be no longer than 20-30 seconds. Although, I don’t know the exactly how long the song can be. Hope this works out!

I actually just went back to the way I used to make mp3 ring tones before:
I import the track into FCP and cut the song down to the time I want, then export as AIFF, import into itunes and convert them to ACC(Now instead of mp3)…

Only now I use makeiphoneringtone and I have the song I want, the place in the song, and length of time I want. Free.

It’s a little more involved, but then you can edit the song to your liking, rather than using iTunes’ sample track or the whole song.

Preston and Brandon,
The solution to this problem in 7.4.1 seems to be to go back through after the files have been added to itunes as .m4r and change it to .m4a … With windows you will also have to go back in to the Ringtones list and find the files again. Because apple uses more static links which access the file based on location and not on name this is not nessessary in OSx…

I am also having the same problem as above. the ringer is in the ringtones tab, but when i sync the phone to itunes, I can’t find the ringer in the settings.

I had the same problem as Raj…

When I sync with the phone it tells me that _____ …”was not copied to the iphone because it cannot be played on this iphone.

How do I get around that?

Hi Andrew, I really don’t know how to that on Win… All I know (and I’m not sure it will help you) is that iTunes 7.4.x is no longer supported under Windows 2000…
